18 months

Today Conley had his 18 month well-check, a few weeks late. A year and a half...wow! Where has the time gone? It's said too often, but I have to agree - it really does go by too fast. I can't believe my little baby is a year and a half - such a little man!

I never posted about our two trips this summer, but I intend to one of these days. Even in the month between those two trips I have noticed so many changes. Conley has always been loving, but he has turned into a big hugger in the past couple months - it started with legs, then hugs for his cousins, and now head and full hugs. And he also likes to give big love bites/kisses on the face. I just love it! Today after his bike ride he smiled his huge smile at me through the front door and then ran to me with arms out for a huge bear hug. It's the best thing ever, I hope he never stops!

Conley developed his own gibberish language before our Italy trip (and perfected it while there) and he is quite the talker. "Ducka-ducka" is my favorite phrase and he brings it out in rapid fire when he really wants something or wants to make a point. Not quite sure what language that is.

Yesterday I put on some music in his room while he played and I folded laundry and he started dancing around in circles, banging away on a makeshift drum and xylophone, and breaking out the random downward dog. He also knows that when his shoes come out that means we're about to go outside or in the car and he heads for the door, always excited for a change of pace! "Chews" is actually one of the new words he's somewhat perfected recently. That and a form of Oliver, Kiki, no and agua. He also loves to help feed the dogs in the morning - he helps me carry the bowls to each of them and then goes back and picks up any loose pieces on the floor and puts them in their bowls. He is even more infatuated with his dogs these days and gives them lots of hugs and "awws", tail and ear pulls, and of course feeds them lots of scraps (and gets some hand licks in the process which always gets a few laughs). He's also mastered the "no" head shake and uses it often (along with saying "no") when I ask him something and he doesn't want it - or doesn't want something that I am attempting to feed him. He also seems to understand the affirmative as well and I think I hear a "yesh" at times. Beans, pasta, rice, corn kernels, peas, veggie burgers, guacamole, tea, shortbread, and just about anything wrapped like a taco round out his favorite foods these days.

Yesterday I was playing Conley's latest music class CD in the car and there is a song about a trotting horse and "whoa" is repeated quite a few times - and Conley now yells out "whoa" at random times during the song. The next song was playing today as I buckled him in and he started dancing around and making the motion of playing drums with his hands - seems like he likes music and dancing! :)

Grocery trips are always fun and Conley usually gets lots of compliments - yesterday was no exception at Whole Foods. He also enjoyed sniffing the basil and chocolate, holding the kale juice and even got a sticker! At home when I was unpacking our groceries, he walked around with the chocolate bar, would sniff it, and then say "mmmm!" He has good taste!

I'm sure there are more milestones that have occurred recently that I am forgetting, but these are some that stick out in my head and that I want to remember once they are a thing of the past - which I'm sure will be all too soon with the way time is flying by.
